Overview

Chop House BBQ, nestled in Cleveland, Texas, is a destination for authentic, smoky barbecue that consistently impresses its patrons. Situated conveniently on TX-321, this local gem offers a dining experience that celebrates traditional Texas flavors with a focus on expertly smoked meats, particularly their standout Boston Butt and brisket.

Visitors often speak highly of the brisket, a dish that seems to have captured the hearts of barbecue lovers far beyond the immediate community. Melissa Taylor’s appreciation for the tender brisket echoes a common sentiment: the meat here is masterfully prepared, yielding a melt-in-the-mouth texture that elevates the whole meal. Nathan Anderson further reinforces this with an enthusiastic endorsement, describing their brisket as “mouth-watering” and “the juiciest smoked brisket” he’s encountered, deserving of nothing less than a perfect score.

What sets Chop House BBQ apart is its insistence on quality and an unapologetic embrace of rich, flavorful cuts. Austin Turtle’s vivid recount of the brisket sandwich experience paints a picture of indulgence, a “performance art” of textures and tastes that revels in the luscious marbling of the meat while allowing their BBQ sauce to play a delicate supporting role. The ribs, too, earn high marks for their satisfying portion of meat, catering to those seeking variety without sacrificing quality.

The menu is rounded out by inventive sides like the loaded potato and the beloved Texas Twinkies—deep-fried jalapeños stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon—which have become fan favorites as noted by Ervin Walker. These complementary dishes add layers to the meal beyond just the smoky protein and demonstrate the careful attention the chefs pay to balance and flavor.

Chop House BBQ’s atmosphere is welcoming, embodying the friendly spirit of Texas hospitality. Regular patrons highlight not just the food, but the genuine kindness of the owners and staff, making it an inviting spot for both locals and travelers. The spacious, laid-back setting suits casual dinners, family gatherings, and anyone eager to immerse themselves in the region’s barbecue heritage.

This restaurant appeals especially to enthusiasts of slow-cooked, smoky meats who appreciate bold flavors and the art of traditional Texas BBQ. With a reputation for dependable quality and a well-curated menu that promises both indulgence and comfort, Chop House BBQ is a must-visit for anyone in the Cleveland area seeking an authentic taste of Texas.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If you're in search of a brisket sandwich that scoffs at convention, look no further than Chop House BBQ. My group of 4 decided to take a detour from the tedious world of 'meat' and found ourselves swimming in a sea of glorious fat. A sandwich? More like a performance art piece celebrating the unsung hero of the culinary world: pure, unadulterated fat. The BBQ sauce? Perfectly passable. Didn't detract from the main attraction, which was, of course, fat. I found it so considerate that the sauce played a supporting role in this ensemble of indulgence. The ribs, however, deserve an honorable mention. They were the lone heroes in a world dominated by fat, actually boasting a respectable amount of meat. If you're the adventurous type that still craves the occasional meat experience, the ribs are your saving grace. A word to the wise: The owner claimed they don't serve 'fat brisket.' Clearly, we must have had the VIP experience because our sandwiches were fat through and through. A memorable visit that truly broadened our horizons—both culinary and physically. I wanted a relaxing weekend of no cooking so we ordered a couple of platters from Chop House. Absolutely AMAZING food and the owners are the nicest people you’ll ever meet!! The loaded potato is massive and full of flavor but the Texas Twinkie’s are my favorite!! Can’t say enough good things about them!!!

Best Roadside BBQ. Albert's a great guy and I really enjoyed the chopped Brisket and the Ribs. They take their time to let the flavor settle into the meat. Revisit for the great Brisket and awesome Country Roads experience... People rate restaurants on atmosphere. The atmosphere here is beautiful. Albert told me that a small Deer, that eats Cheetos likes to hang out on the perimeter.
